Small change, grand gesture for the Food Banks
Losing your job, a divorce, accident or illness, etc. It’s easier than you think to end up in poverty. One in five Belgians are at serious risk of financial problems. We organise an annual fundraising campaign for the Food Banks, among other things, because we believe that everyone is entitled to a healthy meal.
Annual fundraising campaign
The Belgian Federation of Food Banks fights hunger and food waste by donating food and food surpluses to people in financial difficulty. Every year, several of our stores organise a fundraising campaign to give the Food Banks an extra boost. This year, the campaign runs from 9 to 22 October.
During the campaign, at Colruyt Lowest Prices, Okay, Bio-Planet and Collect&Go, you can voluntarily pay for your shopping cart, which don’t actually need a coin. We believe that together we can make a huge difference with lots of small donations - starting from €2. The Food Banks use the amount raised to buy products such as rice and pasta, in addition to the daily food donations.
How can you donate to the Food Banks?
At Colruyt, Okay, Bio-Planet stores and Collect&Go collection points:
- Have the barcode on your shopping cart scanned at the checkout.
- You donate €2 to the Food Banks per scan. To donate a higher amount just have the barcode scanned multiple times.
- The donation will be added to your receipt.
- The full amount raised will go to the Food Banks. Thank you!

Reducing food waste
Based on our social commitment and ambition to minimise food waste, we have been donating our surplus food to the Food Banks for almost 30 years. We also ensure our unsold food is used for other beneficial purposes. Our sustainable approach means we are a frontrunner in reducing food waste and an inspiration to many European food retailers.
