Business architect given the floor
Business architect Dries helps create innovative digital solutions that have a real impact on our customers and the business: “I work on high-level solutions for the organisation's challenges and needs.”
Balance in a challenging work environment
What does searching for IT solutions for Colruyt Group look like? “My workdays are highly varied, as each project is different,” Dries begins. “I am involved in a solution-oriented approach, overseeing stakeholder requirements, budget constraints, and deadlines.”
He does not work alone, as Colruyt Group IT employs a range of different profiles. “I collaborate with analysts, project managers, and project teams, experiencing a strong sense of collegiality. Together, we develop innovative digital applications that meet organisational needs, such as integrating AI into pricing calculations. There is also room to show initiative and put forward your own ideas. All this makes for a pleasant workplace.”
“The work-life balance at Colruyt Group is also excellent,” Dries continues. “I usually commute for an hour and a half, but there are flexible working hours, and I can work from home or from a regional office three days a week. No one expects you to check your email after office hours or during holidays.”
Visible impact
Dries finds his role as a business architect very fulfilling. “Completing a project within the set deadline and budget? That's incredibly satisfying. Colleagues also value our work, as new applications enable them to work more efficiently. Seeing the results of my work in the stores is also a great boost! When I shop, I enjoy understanding the technology and logic behind an application and what that innovation means for the customer.”
Training for career growth
“I feel a lot of support,” says Dries. “My manager and I meet each month for an informal discussion about work, but especially about my personal development. I get ample training and advancement opportunities.”
Dries started as an analyst and moved into his current role as a business architect. “This role aligns better with my profile,” he says. “To prepare for this new position, I undertook various training courses. In a broad organisation like Colruyt Group, you can easily advance both vertically and horizontally. You can also take courses to develop skills, such as delivering constructive feedback.”
For young graduates with little or no work experience, there are numerous opportunities: “You can participate in various traineeships at IT & Data, ranging from one to several months. I did this for my first role as an analyst. In two months, I got to know Colruyt Group IT better and received intensive training tailored to my future role. Highly recommended!”
